Liberal Lesson No. 242 - Smoke and Mirrors the Spy Game Edition

President Obama is playing spy games. With support for the nationalization of healthcare decreasing day after day the Obama administration has turned to the Democrat Handbook and settled on the smoke-and-mirrors strategy.

No amateur to the playbook, Obama and his supporters originally led off with their strongest stratagem – race wars. There were mumblings that opponents of nationalized healthcare were racist “astroturfers.” However the racist argument has proved to be laughable to just about everyone. After seeing a black man get more votes than any other Democrat candidate for President since JFK, it seems a little odd that just seven months into his first term the country is suddenly overflowing with people opposing his plans just because he is black.

With an increasing number of people mobilized against his healthcare plan and with his approval rating around 50 percent, the Obama Administration knows they need something else, something bigger, something that had worked for Democrats before. They decided that since race baiting a majority of American people wasn’t appearing to work they would go for an all out smoke and mirrors illusion so Attorney General Eric Holder announced the appointment of a special prosecutor to investigate the members of the CIA involved in enhanced interrogation techniques during the Bush Administration.

This was not the first time Democrats would use foreign policy to distract from their disastrous domestic performance. On August 20, 1998 Monica Lewinsky was appearing to testify for the second time before the grand jury investigating President Bill Clinton. Clinton, whose response was to bomb Afghanistan and Sudan destroying an aspirin factory. Granted, Monica was upset about a different kind of lacking performance from Clinton’s “executive branch.” Months late as the House of Representatives was planning to impeach Clinton he ordered major airstrikes in against Iraq. This is even more shocking when you consider that by this time in Clinton’s presidency the World Trade Center had been bombed (five people killed), 18 American troops were killed in Somalia, a car bomb in Saudi Arabia killed five Americans, an Air Force housing complex in Saudi Arabia was bomber and the U.S. embassies in Kenya and Tanzania were bombed. Clinton responded to all of these situations with a mix of silence, retreat and empty threats. The only time he took action was when his presidency was at risk domestically.

The investigation into officials from the Bush administration for the use of “enhanced interrogation techniques” is simply a diversion being put up so that the Democrats can regroup and redirect focus from their failing healthcare debacle. By dredging up CIA indictments the Obama team hopes to distract not only the people who are outraged over the proposed healthcare reforms and the Republicans in Congress but also the leftists in the Democrat party who have been screaming for George Bush’s head on a platter since January 21, 2001.

Allowing the investigation into CIA interrogation techniques, with indictments almost sure to follow, sets one of the most dangerous precedents in American history. By allowing the investigation of the CIA for purely political reasons (it can’t be for moral reasons since Obama has reserved the right to order the use of the exact same interrogation techniques the special prosecutor will be investigating) the Obama administration is putting America at risk. Not only will the information allow American’s enemies to better prepare themselves for captivity, it will serve as a gold mine for the rampant propaganda used to recruit terrorists against America worldwide. With this investigation Democrats may finally have succeed in setting a precedent that will one day be responsible for more American deaths than Roe v. Wade.

Meet David K. Kyle

David Kyle is the director of Blood Money (see below).

Check out his blog The Candid Truth HERE.

Here is part of last week's interview with LifeSiteNews.com:

The movie, which is currently in post-production and will hopefully be complete by the end of September, hopes to get people talking about the issue of abortion. Kyle says, "It's one of those issues that even the pro-choice side really doesn't want to talk about."

Kyle says they hope the movie will inform people about the business aspect of abortion and the effect that abortion has on women.

"People are making millions upon millions of dollars off the murdering of innocent babies," he said.

"Abortion has consequences to it. It's sold as a quick fix when you're in trouble. You can go and have an abortion and the problem goes away. Well, we know from countless women that the problem does not go away. Women have long term consequences that they are going to have to deal with for years and years."

Flashbacks:

From March 17, 2008
Margaret Sanger was, ironically, the proverbial mother of Planned Parenthood. She stood as the honorary chairman at the organization's founding. In 1917 she was jailed for handing out contraception. After abandoning her husband and three children Sanger turned her attention to ensuring that those she saw as "unfit" were not allowed to procreate. Among those who were deemed unfit by Sanger were immigrants or as she put it "human weeds," whom she saw as lowering the nation's IQ and its strength. Sanger worried that the "increasing race of morons" who had already immigrated to America had damaged the United States significantly. Sanger was an all-out advocate of eugenics. She saw Jews and Italians as filling the insane asylums, the hospitals and other institutions for the feeble minded, as she once told the New York State Assembly. She went as far as to propose and advocate a five-year moratorium on birth in the United States ...

Today Sanger's tradition is carried on by those who push for abortion at any time and for any reason. With the increases in medical technology that allow birth defects and diseases to be diagnosed prenatally, Sanger's attempts to engineer a society purged of undesirables may just be close to reality.

From March 3, 2008

These passive assumptions that abortion is fundamental to society and to women are incredibly alarming. I've never heard of such a fundamental right that people refuse to call by its name. One of the leading organizations that advocates the protection of "abortion rights" in America and the preservation of Roe v. Wade is NARAL Pro-Choice America. The acronym NARAL stands for the National Abortion and Reproductive Rights Action League. Today, you won't find that acronym spelled out anywhere on the organizations Web site. To organizations like NARAL, pregnant women go and get a procedure to make their pregnancy go away. Gloria Steinem characterized the feminists pro-abortion policy positions seeking to "elevate reproductive freedom to a universal right at least as basic as freedom of speech or assembly" as modern feminists' contribution to society. I have never seen anyone who has needed therapy and counseling after exercising their right to free speech. Free speech advocates also don't attempt to disguise their defenses of what they are arguing for. If you support free speech you support it in all cases and you say that. Feminists refuse to talk about abortion except to bring in the issue of incest and rape.

From February 25, 2008

For the left, which apparently sees women as second-class citizens, the choice of abortion is essential to guaranteeing woman's equality in society. Despite this however, they still claim that no one is pro-abortion, that no one wants abortions. There is an inherent flaw in an argument when one is not willing to say they are not pro-whatever it is you support. While the politically savvy say that abortion should never be taken lightly and an ideal place is one where abortions would not have to occur their leading theorists and supporters of abortion betray them. Prominent feminist and pro-abortion thinker and author Gloria Steinem refers to abortion as a woman's "reproductive veto power." There is another option other than vetoing the life of a baby - it's called keeping your legs closed.

From February 23, 2006

D&X abortions have earned the name partial-birth abortions because the procedure is almost identical to the procedure used to deliver a breeched baby (a baby who is born feet first rather than head first). In the D&X procedure the doctor partially removes the fetus, intact, until just the head remains inside the mother. The abortionist then inserts scissors into the back of the half delivered baby's head forcing them into the skull. Following this a suction catheter is inserted into the fetus and the contents of its skull are sucked out.

D&E abortions are even more graphic, and pose a greater threat to the health of the mother. In a D&E abortion fetal body parts are grasped, at random, with a long toothed clamp. They are then pulled from the fetus (yes, ripped off the body of the fetus), and removed from the vaginal canal. The remaining parts are subsequently removed from the mother until only the skull remains. The skull is then crushed and pulled out. Finally, the placenta is sucked out of the uterus. I don't think you have to be Republican to find that horrifying. Nor Pro-Life, nor Christian. I think you just have to be human. Regardless of the legality of abortion, can we all at least agree on that? What if I told you that the fetus can feel the entire procedure as it is being carried out? In fact section 2, article 13 (m) of the Partial Birth Abortion Ban Act states that "The vast majority of babies killed during partial-birth abortions are alive until the end of the procedure. It is a medical fact, however, that unborn infants at this stage can feel pain when subjected to painful stimuli and that their perception of this pain is even more intense than that of newborn infants and older children when subjected to the same stimuli. Thus, during a partial-birth abortion procedure, the child will fully experience the pain associated with piercing his or her skull and sucking out his or her brain."

Karl Rove Sticks it in the Eye of Conyers, NYT

Writing in the Wall Street Journal, Karl Rove talks about why Rep. John Conyers, the New York Times and the Washington Post owe him an apology for the countless allegations that Rove was behind the firing of Attorneys during the Bush Administration.

"Judging from the evidence released, it uncovered facts that show that my role in the U.S. attorneys issue was minimal and entirely proper. I did not conceive of the idea of removing certain U.S. attorneys, did not select those to be removed, and did not see the lists of U.S. attorneys Justice was considering to replace. I had no idea who was on the final list until Justice sent it to the White House in November 2006. No fair-minded person can review the thousands of pages of documents and testimony and conclude that I drove the process."

Throwbacks: Bob Novak

Update: Remembering Bob Novak (a great interview)

“Thanks to my tumor, I probably never will be able to drive again, and I have sold the Corvette, which I dearly loved. Taking away my typewriter, however, may require modification of the First Amendment.”

More will be added as they are found, feel free to send me links to great Novak speeches/media moments or post them in the comment section and I will post them for all to see ...

Rest In Peace Bob Novak

Bob Novak has died. He will be missed like no other ...

Here is just an example of Novak's insight and influence from Ken Tomilson at Human Events:

Take the Evans-Novak column that ran under the title “the Sonnenfeldt Doctrine” in the early spring of 1976. When I finished reading it, I remember thinking, this is quintessential Bob Novak ... State Department Counselor Helmut Sonnenfeldt had told a London gathering of American ambassadors that Soviet domination of Eastern Europe was actually necessary for world peace. In fact, Poland was a good example of the benefits of Soviet control because that had enabled the Poles to overcome their “romantic” political instincts which had led to so many “disasters in their past.”

This column had almost everything. Those words were contained in an official State Department cable slipped to Novak by a highly placed source. Henry Kissinger’s right-hand man was confirming that détente was code for Communist victory over freedom. Within days, candidate Ronald Reagan who was challenging President Ford in Republican primaries, declared the Sonnenfeldt Doctrine meant “slaves should accept their fate.”

Here's what other people are saying:

Pat Buchanan:

" Bob Novak was the finest reporter-columnist of his generation. Often, I have said that, were I an editor of a newspaper and could carry but one column, it would be Novak's. He was a reporter's reporter whose column invariably carried information no one else had gotten. He was passionate about his craft, about his convictions and, following his conversion to Catholicism, about his Church. While I have known Bob for more than 40 years, ever since our days together on "The McLaughlin Group" and CNN's "Crossfire" -- both of which began in 1982 -- and later, "Capitol Gang," we have been good friends. And a more reliable friend in time of need one could not find. About Novak there was nothing artificial or synthetic. His death leaves a hole in our lives and our hearts. My wife Shelley and I will miss our dinners at Bethany and Fenwick Island with Bob and Geraldine. May he rest in peace."

Tony Blankley:

"Bob’s sheer journalistic integrity was a thing to behold. When I served as Speaker Newt Gingrich’s press secretary, we never got a single break from Bob — nor a single inaccurate word of reporting or analysis. How much Washington reporting today could use Bob Novak’s impeccable integrity and diligent reporting. What a loss to the public debate."

Phyllis Schlafly:

"Bob Novak was an honest reporter who consistently exposed the truth about politics, policy, and political personnel. He will be sorely missed."

Ann Coulter

"I was an intern for Mr. Novak with the National Journalism Center after college. He terrified me, but I got to see the master in action. After working with him, I could understand how he got anyone to talk, which made him a reporter like no other.

As his guest at the Gridiron Dinner a few years ago, I was telling him how I avoided getting to know politicians, so that I could attack them if circumstances required. He got a twinkle in his eye and said, "Oh that makes it more fun!"

Rest in Peace, Bob Novak."

The Chicago Sun-Times Ed. Board:

"Most people know the late Sun-Times columnist Robert D. Novak, who died this morning [Tuesday] from complications of a brain tumor, as a journalist. And indeed he was among the best this country has produced. Simply stated, Bob was a relentless reporter. His political columns were marked by his determination to dig out new information, behind-the-scenes anecdotes and Washington secrets to tell us something we didn’t know. He combined that with sharp analysis, insightful commentary and passion about the issues facing the nation to emerge as a brawling contestant in the great national debates of his era.

Firmly planted in the print world with his widely read syndicated thrice-a-week column, Bob also was an innovator in the electronic media. With the CNN programs “Capital Gang” and “Crossfire,” Bob pioneered the brash, no-holds-barred public affairs programming so familiar to viewers of cable news television today.

But more than that, his contributions to the great debates of the day demonstrated that Bob was someone who thought deeply about his country, its system of government and the challenges both faced."

WOOHOOO!! Boxer in for the Fight of her Life

See dreams can come true:

What looks increasingly likely is that Boxer will be in for the re-election fight of her career. While she has yet to announce her candidacy, all signs point to a run by Republican Carly Fiorina, the charismatic ex-chief of Hewlett-Packard who was ousted from her job in 2005 and last year served as a top surrogate for John McCain's presidential bid.

Fiorina would bring a combination of traits to the race never faced before by Boxer: She is a woman with the wherewithal to pump millions of her own dollars into her candidacy and probably raise millions more from others. And historically, the election after a president first takes office has not been kind to the party in charge at the White House.

***

In this case, analysts say, the 2010 California Senate election is expected to be at least partly a referendum on the policies of Obama and the Democratic Congress — from health care to immigration to climate change. And as chairman of the Senate committee shaping global warming legislation in the coming months, Boxer will have little distance from the president — for better or worse.

As Obama's fortunes go over the next 14 months, in other words, so might Boxer's.

HERE is the full story.

If you're looking for a reason why Boxer should be sent back to CA for good in 14 months look no further than last month when she race baited a black man testifying before her committee ...

Congresswoman admits nationalized healthcare would pay for abortions

More truths come out about Obamacare ... California Democrat Rep. Zoe Lofgren at a Community Meeting in San Jose, California on August 10, 2009 admitting that abortion is included in Obamacare ...

Paglia: Obama's Healthcare Horror

Camille Paglia is spot on with her column this week and even though she still thinks Obama has the ability (and will) to "save" America it is clear that even the left may be starting to see the truth behind the image that is Obama. Highlights below:

I must confess my dismay bordering on horror at the amateurism of the White House apparatus for domestic policy. When will heads start to roll? It's rumored that the White House counsel may be booted, following Michelle Obama's chief of staff, and I hope it's a harbinger of things to come. Except for that wily fox, David Axelrod, who could charm gold threads out of moonbeams, Obama seems to be surrounded by juvenile tinhorns, bumbling mediocrities and crass bully boys.

***

But who would have thought that the sober, deliberative Barack Obama would have nothing to propose but vague and slippery promises -- or that he would so easily cede the leadership clout of the executive branch to a chaotic, rapacious, solipsistic Congress? House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, whom I used to admire for her smooth aplomb under pressure, has clearly gone off the deep end with her bizarre rants about legitimate town-hall protests by American citizens. She is doing grievous damage to the party and should immediately step down.

***

There is plenty of blame to go around. Obama's aggressive endorsement of a healthcare plan that does not even exist yet, except in five competing, fluctuating drafts, makes Washington seem like Cloud Cuckoo Land.

***

You can keep your doctor; you can keep your insurance, if you're happy with it, Obama keeps assuring us in soothing, lullaby tones. Oh, really? And what if my doctor is not the one appointed by the new government medical boards for ruling on my access to tests and specialists? And what if my insurance company goes belly up because of undercutting by its government-bankrolled competitor? Face it: Virtually all nationalized health systems, neither nourished nor updated by profit-driven private investment, eventually lead to rationing.

***

I just don't get it. Why the insane rush to pass a bill, any bill, in three weeks? And why such an abject failure by the Obama administration to present the issues to the public in a rational, detailed, informational way? The U.S. is gigantic; many of our states are bigger than whole European nations. The bureaucracy required to institute and manage a nationalized health system here would be Byzantine beyond belief and would vampirically absorb whatever savings Obama thinks could be made. And the transition period would be a nightmare of red tape and mammoth screw-ups, which we can ill afford with a faltering economy.

***

How is it possible that Democrats, through their own clumsiness and arrogance, have sabotaged healthcare reform yet again? Blaming obstructionist Republicans is nonsensical, because Democrats control the White House and both Houses of Congress. It isn't conservative rumors or lies that are stopping healthcare legislation; it's the justifiable alarm of an electorate that has been cut out of the loop and is watching its representatives construct a tangled labyrinth for others but not for themselves.

AAAAAAND We're Back!

After a hiatus we are back at it! Tell everyone you know. We've got some new ideas, so some changes are on the way.

Even Obama Knew

From the New York Times:

WASHINGTON – President Obama’s national intelligence director told colleagues in a private memo last week that the harsh interrogation techniques banned by the White House did produce significant information that helped the nation in its struggle with terrorists.

“High value information came from interrogations in which those methods were used and provided a deeper understanding of the al Qa’ida organization that was attacking this country,” Adm. Dennis C. Blair, the intelligence director, wrote in a memo to his staff last Thursday.

William Ayers is Going to UConn, pt II

We are wondering just what the Student Reaction to Bill Ayers is going to be ... like we said in the previous post (below) we think turnout will be mediocre at best.

However it did make us think back to when Ann Coulter came to campus in 2005. She drew 2,600 people, had her speech disrupted, spawned a counter event and numerous protests. Here is a taste of how some of the more "tolerant" and "open minded" audience members acted during Coulter's speech:

Fore some reason we have a hunch that Ayers won't be treated the same way ...

William Ayers is Going to UConn

As part of "Human Rights Awareness Week" at the University of Connecticut William Ayers will be speaking.

Highlighted events for the week include:
  • Monday: a screening of “Walmart: the high cost of low price,”
  • Tuesday: a "fair trade coffee house," a talk by Robert King (formerly Robert King Wilkerson) of the Black Panthers and the Angola 3,
  • Wednesday: a "woman's empowerment fair," a reproductive rights panel at the women's center, a candle light vigil to "raise awareness about violence against women,"
  • Thursday: a showing of "Supersize Me," and a healthcare panel
  • Friday: a talk by William Ayers of the Weather Underground

The news article says to contact UConn PIRG for more information at (860) 486-5002 ... or maybe with some comments

Nothing is better than has-beens and campus hippies telling each other how great they are... luckily UConn's annual three day long party/booze-fest known as Spring Weekend starts on Thursday, so we predict the normal students will be quite preoccupied with other "activities."

McCain Faces Primary Challenger

Via Politico:

Chris Simcox, the founder of the Minuteman Civil Defense Corps and a prominent figure in the anti-immigration movement, will announcing tomorrow at an event on the Mexican border that he's resigned from the group to run in the 2010 Senate primary.

From a forthcoming release:
"John McCain has failed miserably in his duty to secure this nation's borders and protect the people of Arizona from the escalating violence and lawlessness," Simcox said. "He has fought real efforts over the years at every turn, opting to hold our nation's border security hostage to his amnesty schemes. Coupled with his votes for reckless bailout spending and big government solutions to our nation's problems, John McCain is out of touch with everyday Arizonans. Enough is enough."

A Timid Advocate of Freedom

Writing for the National Review Online Mitt Romney takes on Obama's willingness to criticize America and stand idly by while the enemies of freedom take pot shots at America right in front of him.
"The words spoken by the leader of the free world can expand the frontiers of freedom or shrink them. When Ronald Reagan called on Gorbachev to “tear down this wall,” a surge of confidence rose that would ultimately breach the bounds of the evil empire. It was the same confidence that had been ignited decades earlier when John F. Kennedy declared to a people surrounded by Communism that they were not alone ... Such words of solidarity, of confidence, and of unwavering conviction that America is indeed “the last best hope on earth” are what freedom’s friends would have expected to hear from our president when our nation was slandered. Instead he offered silence, smiles, and a handshake."
Well put.

Sarah Says NO

Governor Sarah Palin has declined 45% of the stimulus money for Alaska saying:

"We are not requesting funds intended to just grow government. We are not requesting more money for normal day-to-day operations of government as part of this economic stimulus package. In essence we say no to operating funds for more positions in government."

A Bit More on President Bush's Book

"News of the book emerged Tuesday when Bush spoke in Canada. Tentatively called "Decision Points," the book is scheduled for a 2010 release by Crown, an imprint of the Crown Publishing Group, which in turn is a division of Random House Inc. Financial details were not disclosed. Instead of telling his life story, Bush will concentrate on about a dozen personal and presidential choices, including giving up drinking, picking Dick Cheney as his vice president and sending troops to Iraq."

"Newbie President Barack Obama appears to be willing to try everything to get the word out regarding his plans for the future of the nation, because he'll be breaking presidential precedent by appearing on Jay Leno's talk show, favored by millions of slumbering Americans. No word on why the Obama camp didn't choose Jimmy Fallon's spanking new show."
Someone needs to tell the President that he can stop campaigning now ...

Guantanamo Inmates No Longer "Enemy Combatants"

"The Obama administration stopped calling Guantanamo inmates "enemy combatants" on Friday and incorporated international law as its basis for holding the prisoners while it works to close the facility.

The U.S. Justice Department filed court papers outlining a further legal and linguistic shift from the anti-terrorism policies of Republican President George W. Bush, which drew worldwide condemnation as violations of human rights and international law.

"As we work toward developing a new policy to govern detainees, it is essential that we operate in a manner that strengthens our national security, is consistent with our values, and is governed by law," U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder said in a statement."

So do we get to call them "terrorists" again, or is that too mean?

What do you think we should call the inmates at Club Gitmo?

Law of the Sea Treaty is Back!

Like a cold sore, the attack on America's sovereignty that is the Law of the Sea Treaty is back. Ronald Reagan prevented this treaty from happening, George W. Bush tried to bring it back and now under a Dem Congress we may just get it ...

Here is a clip (from when Bush wanted to ratify LoST) that does a great job of describing the Law of the Sea Treaty and what it will lead to:

We Hate to Give The Publicity, But ...

We resisted talking about this b/c it's a non issue, but we watched some of the talk show coverage of the "issue" and it annoyed us so we're gonna let it out here...

Meghan McCain wrote a piece on the Daily Beast (click headline) about how she doesn't "get" Ann Coulter she's mean, shes confusing blah blah blah ...

Attacking Ann Coulter for being "extreme" isn't new and it's not controversial, despite what McCain says on her TV appearances.

McCain, a self-described "progressive Republican" called Coulter confusing - well McCain (in one interview on Fox & Friends) went from talking about how the GOP needs to go back to it's Reagan principles, to talking about how the GOP needs to redefine itself and move on.

The big difference we see McCain keeps talking about her love for the GOP/Republican Party, Ann Coulter talks about being Conservative - the two are not the same thing - John McCain was a Republican but not a conservative and look where that got him last November...

Feeding at the Trough?

According to Taxpayers for Common Sense, a watchdog group these Republicans are leading the Pork Harvest of 2009:
  • Congressman Ron Paul has 20 earmarks (just short of $74 million) in the bill.
  • Congressman Don Young from Alaska has 27 earmarks (over $71 million) in the bill.
  • Senator Thad Cochran has 204 earmarks, for a grand total of $470 million, in the bill.
  • Senator Roger Wicker comes in at $390 million
  • Senator David Vitter comes in at $249 million
  • Senator Kit Bond comes in at over 248 million

That's right Ron Paul, who doesn't think we should spend money on the War on Terror, leads the way with some $74 million ... talk about doublespeak

Free Barack ... From His Staff

Camille Paglia takes Obama's White House to task in her column this week, but she maintains that she still has the uptmost confidence in Obama himself, he just needs all new people around him:

"Heads should be rolling at the White House for the embarrassing series of flubs that have overshadowed President Obama's first seven weeks in office and given the scattered, demoralized Republicans a huge boost toward regrouping and resurrection. "

Paglia goes on to cite the Obama Rush feud as an example of the Administration's problems:

"The orchestrated attack on radio host Rush Limbaugh, which has made the White
House look like an oafish bunch of drunken frat boys. I returned from carnival in Brazil (more on that shortly) to find the Limbaugh affair in full flower. Has the administration gone mad? This entire fracas was set off by the president himself, who lowered his office by targeting a private citizen by name. Limbaugh had every right to counterattack, which he did with gusto. Why have so many Democrats abandoned the hallowed principle of free speech?"

This is why we are fans of Paglia, she is a liberal who supports things like free speech ... even for conservatives!!

He's Ruining the Economy; But He Has a Beautiful Family

Are Obama's supporters turning? Have they finally seen the light?

It started with Cramer and now Jack Welch, Warren Buffet and other prominent business men are speaking out against the way Obama is handling the economy.

Buffet is out against card check, cap and trade, corporate jets, and is saying that Dems should not be trying to use the economy to "roll the republicans."

Of course all of their criticisms are loaded with stipulations "I love the guy [Obama)," "He's a great guy," "He's got a beautiful family" etc ...

Cramer is spinning like mad on his show "Mad Money" trying to get back in Obama's good graces ...

Cue more Emanuel/Carville/Begala attacks in 10 ... 9 ... 8 ...

Democrats Try to Paint Cantor as 'Mr. NO'

Dems. are trying to paint House Minority Whip Eric Cantor as Mr. No for his opposition to stem cell research, the stimulus, nationalizing health care etc, etc ...

This will probably work as well as the "Attack Rush" strategy ... keep up the good work Mr. Cantor!

Stop Card Check Legislation!

UPDATE: Rumors are out that the Senate may not vote on Card Check because the vote is in jeopardy ... This is the time to ratchet up the heat on your Senators and Reps!! Tell them to Vote NO Vote No!! Vote NO!!
-----

Card Check Legislation, which would take away the right of workers to vote on unionization with a secret ballot is going to be introduced today.

Obama's BFF from the campaign/debates Warren Buffet, whose counsel Obama said he would seek on the economy has publicly come out against card check. "I think the secret ballot is important."

Call your Senators, Call your Representative tell them to preserve the integrity of the workplace and VOTE NO on card Check!!!

Vatican, American Catholics Rebuke Obama

After President Obama's reversal of President Bush's executive order regarding embryonic stem cell research, the Vatican and American Catholic leaders have rebuked Obama.

"Cardinal Justin Rigali of Philadelphia, chairman of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops' committee on pro-life activities, called Obama's decision "a sad victory of politics over science and ethics," adding that "This action is morally wrong because it encourages the destruction of
innocent human life, treating vulnerable human beings as mere products to be
harvested
."

The Vatican's position is that human embryos posses "from the very beginning, the dignity proper to a person."

50 Days

Today marks President Obama's 50th day as President.

So many problems in such little time.

Obama to Allow Federal Funding For Stem Cell Research

President Bush's executive order banning federal funding of research on the earliest stages of a human life (embryos) is expected to be reversed sometime today by President Obama.

"Bush had limited the use of taxpayer money to 21 stem cell lines that were created before Aug. 9, 2001. The Obama order reverses that but does not address a legislative ban that precludes any federal money to researchers who develop stem cell lines by destroying embryos.

The legislation, however, does not prevent funds for research on stem cell lines that were produced by researchers who did their work without federal aid."

Seems like Obama is trying to let companies circumvent the law ...

Harold Varmus, chairman of the White House's Council of Advisers on Science and Technology had this to say regarding the reversal:

"We view what happened with stem cell research in the last administration is one manifestation of failure to think carefully about how federal support of science and the use of scientific advice occurs."

And WE view this as more than an issue of using scientific advice; it's about protecting and cultivating a respect for human life in its most vulnerable stages.

I Guess Staples Was Out of Easy Buttons...

Sec. of State Clinton and her crack team of diplomats screw up a simple Russian translation.
"Clinton presented [Russian Foreign Minister] Lavrov with a gift-wrapped red button, which said "Reset" in English and "Peregruzka" in Russian. The problem was, "peregruzka" doesn't mean reset. It means overcharged, or overloaded. "
So much for a new era of "smart" diplomacy...

CNN Cancels Hughley

CNN has confirmed the cancellation of D.L. Hughley Breaks the News, saying a "new role" has been agreed upon for Hughley.

We don't believe the reason but regardless we don't think anyone will notice. Didn't Tucker Carlson's show last longer? Talk about adding insult to injury.

Great Column

Read Phyllis Schlafly's latest column (click the headline).

It deals with two recent decisions by the Supreme Court:

Ysursa v. Pcatello Education Association (http://www.law.cornell.edu/supct/html/07-869.ZS.html) which deals with Idaho's ban on checkoff's for public employees to contribute to political activities.

The Court upheld the ban with Chief Justice Roberts writing the opinion and only 3 Justices dissenting.

-and-

Pleasant Grove City v. Summum (http://www.law.cornell.edu/supct/html/07-665.ZS.html) dealing with the power of a public park to refuse to display a non-traditional religious symbol even if it allows the display of traditional ones.

The Court overturned a decision by the Tenth Circuit Court to allow the park the power to refuse to display a non-traditional religious symbol. Seven Justices joined Justice Sam Alito's opinion. Predictably Justice Souter was the only one to dissent.

Finally Schlafly points to two upcoming cases on the Court's horizon for us all to keep a watch on: Ricci v. DeStefano deals with Affirmative Action and Horne v. Flores deals with billingual education.

Schlafly's fall hasn't slowed her down one bit and we're still wishing her a speedy recovery!!

NY Magazine - Coulter: 1 Olbermann: 0

The story revolves around Coulter's latest column (at www.anncoulter.com) attacking Keith Olbermann's response to TVNewser.
"Poor Annie has completely lost it. Cornell diplomas don't make any reference to individual college or major. They're Cornell diplomas. Mine looks exactly like hers, only if she was an out-of-stater she probably paid 8-10 times what I did for mine. And the premise of the University is that anybody can take almost any course. Nearly half of mine were in "her" Arts College. And this is the first time since I went there in 1975 that I've ever seen a Cornellian rag on all the other colleges. It's a long way to go just to rationalize Limbaugh not knowing the Constitution from the Declaration of Independence."

The decision by NY Mag: "Hmmm. We have to say, this one victory goes to Ann. Keith's response definitely wasn't as funny, and he kind of lost us at "poor Annie."

We're guessing Coulter will make Olbermann's beloved countdown to the "Worst Person in the World"

Rove, Miers to Testify in Closed Session

Karl Rove and Harriet Miers have agreed to testify:

WASHINGTON (AP) - Former top Bush aides Karl Rove and Harriet Miers agreed Wednesday to testify before Congress under oath about the firings of U.S. attorneys, a controversy involving allegations of political interference that grew into a constitutional standoff between two branches of government.

The Bush White House had fought attempts to force Rove and Miers to testify, and the agreement - steered by aides to President Barack Obama - ended that dispute. Both the White House and lawmakers, especially now that Democrat Obama has replaced Republican George W. Bush - were leery of having a judge settle the question about the limits of executive privilege, for fear of losing.

The agreement calls for Rove and Miers, Bush's top political adviser and White House counsel, to be interviewed by the House Judiciary Committee in closed depositions "under the penalty for perjury," said House Judiciary Committee Chairman John Conyers, D-Mich. The committee says it also might call the two for public testimony.

Live Baby Thrown in Dumpster at Abortion Clinic

So disturbing, so upsetting

"MIAMI - An abortion clinic owner is accused of delivering a live baby during a botched procedure and then throwing the infant away.

Belkis Gonzalez, 42, was arrested Tuesday and charged with practicing medicine without a license and tampering with evidence, both felonies, said Ed Griffith, a spokesman for the Miami-Dade State Attorney's office. If found guilty, Gonzalez would face at least a year in prison and up to 15 years."

Sycloria Williams is the teenage mother of the dead child and has filed a lawsuit. In it she claims that Gonzalez knocked the infant onto the floor then scooped up the baby, placenta and afterbirth into a bio-hazard bag and threw it out. The cause of death of the baby could not be determined because it had decomposed quite a bit before being found 8 days later.

The Abortion clinic's doctor, Dr. Pierre Jean-Jacque Renelique, had been scheduled to perform the procedure, but Williams went into labor after being given drugs to dilate her cervix and waiting for hours for Renelique to arrive Last month Renelique's license was revoked for committing medical malpractice, delegating responsibility to unlicensed personnel and failing to keep an accurate medical record. Gonzalez was being held on $50,000 bond and a hearing was scheduled for this morning.

"At 23 weeks, an otherwise healthy fetus would have a slim but legitimate chance of survival. Quadruplets born at 23 weeks last year at The Nebraska Medical Center survived.

An autopsy determined Williams' baby - she named her Shanice - had filled her lungs with air, meaning she had been born alive, according to the Department of Health. The cause of death was listed as extreme prematurity."

Again the cause of death of the baby could not be determined because it had decomposed quite a bit before being found 8 days later.

What did NOW have to say? According to the story by the Associated Press:

"'It really disturbed me,' said Joanne Sterner, president of the Broward County chapter of the National Organization for Women, after reviewing the administrative complaint against Renelique. 'I know that there are clinics out there like this. And I hope that we can keep (women) from going to these types of clinics.'

We think that NOW could do more than "hope." They could provide and encourage alternatives to abortion and work to end abortion in this country but alas that is contrary to their support of abortion so they will just continue to sweep these horrible stories under the rug.

Rush Limbaugh Closes CPAC, Brings Down the House

We didn't want to post Rush's CPAC speech in 8 different parts so we waited until we could find one that had the whole thing from start to finish:

"To those of you in the drive-by-media watching I have not needed a teleprompter."

Just look at the crowd's enthusiasm. (We are happy to say we were in the crowd for this! In fact you should see the back of our heads in this angle.)

Attack Rush Strategy Hatched in Oct.

The campaign against Rush Limbaugh appeared to be a reaction to the "I hope he fails" quote in one of Rush's broadcasts where he said that if Obama was going to govern as a leftist and take the country down the wrong path then Limbaugh (and many Americans) hope he fails.

"The strategy took shape after Democratic strategists Stanley Greenberg and James Carville included Limbaugh’s name in an October poll and learned their longtime tormentor was deeply unpopular with many Americans, especially younger voters. Then the conservative talk-radio host emerged as an unapologetic critic of Barack Obama shortly before his inauguration, when even many Republicans were showering him with praise.

Soon it clicked: Democrats realized they could roll out a new GOP bogeyman for the post-Bush era by turning to an old one in Limbaugh, a polarizing figure since he rose to prominence in the 1990s. "

Going after Rush didn't work for the Clintons but that isn't stopping them - the Democrat Party has launched another anti-limbaugh ad. We are looking forward to the showdown. Happy Hunting Rush.

Not Evil Just Wrong - Interview

Directors Ann McElhinney and Phelim McAleer presented their film Not Evil Just Wrong which deals with the human cost of global warming hysteria. The presentation was moving, passionate and wonderful. In the film they confront the hysteria around the global warming/global climatechange/ environmentalist wackos. They look at the science behind the hysteria as well as the real people that would be affected if the environmentalists' agenda is carried out.

Here is an interview they did with ALG News at CPAC:

McAleer and McElhinney want to show their film as widely as possible to combat the broad effect Al Gore's film had. It is the film Hollywood and Al Gored don't want you to see and it's due out in 3-4 months.

We can't wait to see the whole thing, especially after seeing clips from it at CPAC and the two self-described "recovering Europeans" definitely make our Rising Stars list!!

House Dems Pull DC Voting Rights Bill

Jed Babbin has the story at Human Events:
"The patently unconstitutional bill to give the District of Columbia a voting representative in the House of Representatives was pulled off the House calendar because - according to one House Republican leadership source - they feared that the so-called Blue Dog Democrats would not support it."

And the Results Are In

  • 36% said they feared Obama/Congress' "expanding of government with new spending programs" the most

Phyllis Schlafly

Terribly missed at this past weekend's CPAC was Phyllis Schlafly. Schlafly is the founder of Eagle Forum and is credited (deservedly so) with defeating the Equal Rights Amendment in a 10 year battle from 1972 t0 1982.

After giving a speech at UC Berkley last week Schlafly, 85, fell and broke her hip and was unable to attend CPAC. She was so dearly missed by all in attendance and everyone's thoughts and prayers continue to go out to her.

Schlafly's "STOP ERA" movement began the polticial movement of values voters and combined the efforts of Americans of all faiths to act on pro-family issues.

Here is a link to the American Daily story http://americandaily.com/index.php/article/812

-and-

Here is a column I wrote about Schlafly back in 2007 as printed in the UConn Daily Campus, it also has to deal with Women's Herstory Month on College Campuses:

A Woman Who Deserves Recognition
Posted: 3/15/07

March is Women's History Month, or as the National Organization for Women (NOW) is calling it, National "Herstory" Month. The month of March will be used by women's centers and women's organizations across the country to celebrate their history and the history of women who have had an impact on society. Places like the Women's Center on campus and organizations like NOW will celebrate women's role models like Gloria Steinem and landmarks in their history - like the decision to remove abortion from the jurisdiction of the states in Roe v. Wade.

Unfortunately on campus, and from organizations like NOW, you will never hear the stories of many women who have made more of an impact on this country other than Maureen Dowd's columns in The New York Times have. You'll hear about Madeline Albright but you won't read a thing about Condoleezza Rice. You will never see women who celebrate motherhood and the family, and who oppose abortion and don't agree with the feminist agenda celebrated by these organizations that purport to honor and speak for all women.

One woman that you will never hear about on virtually any college campus during Women's "Herstory" month is Phyllis Schlafly. Schlafly, who will turn 83 this August, should be an icon to anyone who wishes to celebrate influential women in society. Unfortunately, people will never read about her in Vanity Fair, she won't be celebrated on "The View", or on "The Today Show," because she raised a family and opposed feminist action in the 1960s and 1970s. Since you won't ever read about Schlafly in any literature from women's center, I've decided to write about her today.

Schlafly grew up during the Great Depression, during which both of her parents worked. Her mother made sure that Schlafly would get an education working long hours to send her to a Catholic girls' school. However, money for higher education was not an option. Despite this, Schlafly enrolled in Washington University in St. Louis and put herself through college by working the night shift as a laboratory technician testing ammunition by firing rifles and machine guns. After graduating in 1944 with final honors, Schlafly went on to earn her Master's degree in political science/government from Harvard University. At the end of her time there, her professors were encouraging Schlafly to apply to Harvard Law School despite the fact that the law school was not accepting women yet. However, at that time, Schlafly, having no interest in attending law school, declined to apply. When she was in her 50s Schlafly would get her degree from Washington University Law School after feminists would assail her for not having a law degree.

Schlafly would instead marry and begin her family, but family life would in no way slow down Schlafly's drive. In 1952, in time for the Republican National Convention, Schlafly would write and self-publish her first book, "A Choice Not an Echo," an account and criticism of how the Republican Party had abandoned its conservative principles and how its conventions had been hijacked by the "Rockefeller" Republicans (the predecessors to today's "New England" Republicans). While the average nonfiction book sells 500,000 copies, Schlafly's self-published rebuke of the direction of the Republican Party would sell three million copies and would deliver the Republican Party's presidential nomination to Barry Goldwater. Despite Goldwater's loss in the general election, most historians recognize that "A Choice Not an Echo" was responsible for changing the Republican Party forever and for making a Ronald Reagan Presidency possible.

Schlafly would go on to co-author several books with Admiral Chester Ward about foreign policy including "the Gravediggers" and "Kissinger on the Couch," which detailed the inadequacies of Henry Kissinger's policies. During this time in the 60s, while early feminists were debating whether or not the bra was a symbol of a patriarchal society, Schlafly continued to be a vocal proponent of things like a missile defense shield - a topic very hotly debated in the midst of the Cold War.

Then in December 1971, what should be a day of infamy for feminists, the Source Library was looking for someone to oppose the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) in one of its many debates to be broadcast on the radio. The only problem was that they could not find someone to oppose the issue. A friend of Schlafly suggested her for the debate. Here, history almost skipped a beat. Schlafly declined the debate and told them to call her if they ever ran a debate on national defense. Her friend implored her to simply read the amendment and then reconsider. Schlafly gave in, read the amendment, was understandably horrified and thus entered the debate. The feminists had no clue what they had just done to themselves. When Schlafly entered the debate on the ERA, the amendment had passed in the Senate (84 to 8) and in the House (354 to 23). It had been ratified by 30 states in the year since its approval and would need only eight more to be added to the Constitution. Schlafly would stop it in its tracks. She built a grassroots army of women and together they exposed just what the ERA would do to the legal structure of the country and how it would be detrimental to women. In the next nine years, five states would ratify the amendment. However, Schlafly's army convinced five other legislatures to rescind their ratification. The ERA had been beaten by Schlafly.

Schlafly has not slowed down since then. She is a delegate to every Republican Convention and is credited with authoring many parts of the Republican platform. Today, her brain child - the Eagle Forum - has thousands of members. Schlafly has authored or edited 20 books in total. She writes a syndicated column that appears in over 100 newspapers. She also delivers daily radio commentaries and weekly radio addresses on the status of education in the country. In addition for the past 38 years, she has authored a monthly newsletter called "The Phyllis Schlafly Report." She also leads the fight to secure our country's borders and still fights on behalf of the family and against detrimental feminist policies.

Despite all of her accomplishments, the most telling part of Schlafly's personality is the part of her biography that she is most proud of - in 1992 she was named the Illinois "Mother of the Year."

Schlafly is an example of what feminists wish they could be and more. She is an accomplished mother and the prime example that women can have it all. She is a lawyer, activist, a mother and she did not need the ERA to tell her that she could do it. She is an inspiration to women everywhere, but unfortunately the places that exist on our campus and the organizations that exist across the country that purport to empower and speak for all women will never tell her story.

One final addition would only be to reiterate a point that is constantly being made about Schlafly. I have met her at past CPACs and she is always gracious and polite. She is willing to stop for a picture, a book signing or even just to answer a question.

Thoughts and prayers to Mrs. Schlafly.

Back From CPAC

After attending all three days of the Conservative Political Action Conference courtesy of the American Conservative Union, we are charged up and ready to go at it again.

The media has obviously been buzzing about Rush Limbaugh's closing speech at the conference. He brought the house down and went over his allotted speaking time by about an hour. In his speech he gave a rousing criticism of the Obama Administration. Speaking directly to the American people (the speech was picked up live by FoxNews and CNN and has been repeated on those networks) he also criticized the hopelessness and negativity that is coming out of the White House.

Likewise at CPAC Ann Coulter ginned up the base with her speech critizing the media's bias towards Obama.

Several politicians addressed the conference including fmr. Mass. GovernorMitt Romney, Rep. Mike Pence, Rep. Paul Ryan, Gov. Tim Pawlenty, fmr Senator Rick Santorum, Sen. Jim DeMint, fmr Ambassador John Bolton and many others ...

Mitt Romney won the CPAC 2009 Straw Poll as favorite for the 2012 Presidential Election.

Grassroots activists were also out in force and at CPAC they are more loved than the politicians and with good reason.

Camille Paglia Weighs In ...

Check out Camille Paglia's most recent column. In her usual and unique style Paglia weighs in on Obama's agenda for the first 100 days, the Stimulus and the possible return of the Fairness Doctrine among other things.

Highlights:

President Obama was ill-served by his advisors (shall we thump that checkered piñata, Rahm Emanuel?), who evidently did not help him to produce a strong, focused, coherent bill that he could have explained and defended to the nation before it was set upon by partisan wolves. To defer to the House of Representatives and let the bill be thrown together by cacophonous mob rule made the president seem passive and behind the curve.

and
Speaking of talk radio (which I listen to constantly), I remain incredulous that any Democrat who professes liberal values would give a moment's thought to supporting a return of the Fairness Doctrine to muzzle conservative shows ...The failure of liberals to master the vibrant medium of talk radio remains puzzling. To reach the radio audience (whether the topic is sports, politics or car repair), a host must have populist instincts and use the robust common voice. Too many Democrats have become arrogant elitists, speaking down in snide, condescending tones toward tradition-minded middle Americans whom they stereotype as rubes and buffoons. But the bottom line is that government surveillance of the ideological content of talk radio is a shocking first step toward totalitarianism.

We could not agree more ... If only the left had more Paglia and less Clinton/Kennedy/Franken et al it might be able to take itself seriously and more importantly so might people.
