Even Obama Knew

From the New York Times:

WASHINGTON – President Obama’s national intelligence director told colleagues in a private memo last week that the harsh interrogation techniques banned by the White House did produce significant information that helped the nation in its struggle with terrorists.

“High value information came from interrogations in which those methods were used and provided a deeper understanding of the al Qa’ida organization that was attacking this country,” Adm. Dennis C. Blair, the intelligence director, wrote in a memo to his staff last Thursday.

William Ayers is Going to UConn, pt II

We are wondering just what the Student Reaction to Bill Ayers is going to be ... like we said in the previous post (below) we think turnout will be mediocre at best.

However it did make us think back to when Ann Coulter came to campus in 2005. She drew 2,600 people, had her speech disrupted, spawned a counter event and numerous protests. Here is a taste of how some of the more "tolerant" and "open minded" audience members acted during Coulter's speech:

Fore some reason we have a hunch that Ayers won't be treated the same way ...

William Ayers is Going to UConn

As part of "Human Rights Awareness Week" at the University of Connecticut William Ayers will be speaking.

Highlighted events for the week include:
  • Monday: a screening of “Walmart: the high cost of low price,”
  • Tuesday: a "fair trade coffee house," a talk by Robert King (formerly Robert King Wilkerson) of the Black Panthers and the Angola 3,
  • Wednesday: a "woman's empowerment fair," a reproductive rights panel at the women's center, a candle light vigil to "raise awareness about violence against women,"
  • Thursday: a showing of "Supersize Me," and a healthcare panel
  • Friday: a talk by William Ayers of the Weather Underground

The news article says to contact UConn PIRG for more information at (860) 486-5002 ... or maybe with some comments

Nothing is better than has-beens and campus hippies telling each other how great they are... luckily UConn's annual three day long party/booze-fest known as Spring Weekend starts on Thursday, so we predict the normal students will be quite preoccupied with other "activities."

McCain Faces Primary Challenger

Via Politico:

Chris Simcox, the founder of the Minuteman Civil Defense Corps and a prominent figure in the anti-immigration movement, will announcing tomorrow at an event on the Mexican border that he's resigned from the group to run in the 2010 Senate primary.

From a forthcoming release:
"John McCain has failed miserably in his duty to secure this nation's borders and protect the people of Arizona from the escalating violence and lawlessness," Simcox said. "He has fought real efforts over the years at every turn, opting to hold our nation's border security hostage to his amnesty schemes. Coupled with his votes for reckless bailout spending and big government solutions to our nation's problems, John McCain is out of touch with everyday Arizonans. Enough is enough."

A Timid Advocate of Freedom

Writing for the National Review Online Mitt Romney takes on Obama's willingness to criticize America and stand idly by while the enemies of freedom take pot shots at America right in front of him.
"The words spoken by the leader of the free world can expand the frontiers of freedom or shrink them. When Ronald Reagan called on Gorbachev to “tear down this wall,” a surge of confidence rose that would ultimately breach the bounds of the evil empire. It was the same confidence that had been ignited decades earlier when John F. Kennedy declared to a people surrounded by Communism that they were not alone ... Such words of solidarity, of confidence, and of unwavering conviction that America is indeed “the last best hope on earth” are what freedom’s friends would have expected to hear from our president when our nation was slandered. Instead he offered silence, smiles, and a handshake."
Well put.
