Great Column

Read Phyllis Schlafly's latest column (click the headline).

It deals with two recent decisions by the Supreme Court:

Ysursa v. Pcatello Education Association (http://www.law.cornell.edu/supct/html/07-869.ZS.html) which deals with Idaho's ban on checkoff's for public employees to contribute to political activities.

The Court upheld the ban with Chief Justice Roberts writing the opinion and only 3 Justices dissenting.

-and-

Pleasant Grove City v. Summum (http://www.law.cornell.edu/supct/html/07-665.ZS.html) dealing with the power of a public park to refuse to display a non-traditional religious symbol even if it allows the display of traditional ones.

The Court overturned a decision by the Tenth Circuit Court to allow the park the power to refuse to display a non-traditional religious symbol. Seven Justices joined Justice Sam Alito's opinion. Predictably Justice Souter was the only one to dissent.

Finally Schlafly points to two upcoming cases on the Court's horizon for us all to keep a watch on: Ricci v. DeStefano deals with Affirmative Action and Horne v. Flores deals with billingual education.

Schlafly's fall hasn't slowed her down one bit and we're still wishing her a speedy recovery!!
